To Jennifer Smith, powerful storytelling isn’t just show business; it’s great business. She has made an impactful career in telling other people’s stories. Here is part of her story.
Ms. Smith’s knowledge, contributions, influences, and passions branch out in many different ways. From advocacy for inclusion in 2 LGBTQIIA+ and BIPOC communities, to trailblazing a female voice in the media and broadcast industry, to spearheading six prosperous startups, Jennifer Smith has been a strong, unwavering leader in innovations for media companies, driving for profit, social change, and diversity.
Not only has she been a powerful female leader in her industry, but on many occasions, she’s been the only one. She held the first female seat on the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters, was the founding president of the Internet Advertising Bureau of Canada, as well as the first female Vice President in the radio business in Western Canada. Her drive and tenacity have propelled her forward to conquer countless barriers that have come her way, while remaining a dedicated humanitarian for marginalized individuals in advocacy for inclusion.
Ms. Smith was one of the founding executives at OutTV, the world's first gay and lesbian television network, which was a multi-platform business model for television, internet radio, and digital ecommerce, based out of Toronto. She also developed Rainbow Connections, a business targeting affluent gay communities using a loyalty web portal that also had an affinity credit card model that linked to charitable contributions with each purchase. Through this endeavor, she was selected as a Western Canada finalist at the national level with a venture capital company called “Up Start Canada'' and “SheEO”. She sold Rainbow Connections to Headline Media Group for a profit, and returned 28% profit inside 120 days, to 53 investors, which kickstarted her penchant for developing and launching media startups.
Today, Jennifer Smith is the Founder and CEO of Everything Podcasts, a media production company that develops original podcasts to ignite stories with purpose for brands and multinational companies. She is well-known for her tenacity, passion, and adaptability. She continuously demonstrates these traits in seeking out further innovative concepts to drive sales growth and gross profit performance across multiple regions and markets worldwide.
Everything Podcasts was launched in 2019, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her award-winning team of creatives produced content in a docu-tainment style, featuring state-of-the-art production, compelling audio design, and engaging storytelling to ensure the message resonates with its audience in a meaningful and memorable way.
Among other ways of giving back, Ms. Smith takes on 10 pro bono clients annually to provide awareness of important causes through her well-established podcasting platforms. Her work is inspired by her love of people—all people—and she uses her power and influence to give space to unheard voices and stories that deserve to be confidently told and widely shared.
Beyond being business-focused, Ms. Smith takes pride in fostering connections and mentoring fierce leaders of tomorrow. “I want to pay it forward,” she says. “I want people to have those ‘ah-ha’ moments and feel better as a result of us meeting one another and to be change agents together—youth and new talent are our future. That’s a really big deal to me,” says Ms. Smith. “If we can all collaborate and work to empower our future leaders to realize that anything is possible, we can be part of a better world for tomorrow.”
Ms. Smith lives in Vancouver with her wife of 30 years and their three adopted mixed-race children. Their family consistently does work in community outreach and helping various charities, with a focus on supporting marginalized communities through humanitarian efforts and advocacy.
